When someone taps a Click-to-WhatsApp ad on Facebook or Instagram, WhatsApp opens a chat with your business. A welcome message makes that first moment useful instead of an empty chat:
  • a greeting (text)
  • a message already typed in their box, ready to send (prefill)
  • a few quick questions they can tap (quick_replies)
You create welcome messages in LazyApp, then pick one when you build the ad.

Create one

Welcome messages belong to the WhatsApp Business Account of the number you name, and need the templates:write scope to change.

Use it in an ad

  • Ads Manager: in the ad’s Message template section, choose Partner app, pick your app, then pick the welcome message under Message sequence.
  • Marketing API: set the id in the ad creative:

List, change and delete

  • GET /v1/connections/{connection}/welcome-messages lists them, with in_use: true for ones a running ad uses.
  • PUT /v1/connections/{connection}/welcome-messages/{sequence_id} changes one (same fields).
  • DELETE /v1/connections/{connection}/welcome-messages/{sequence_id} deletes one (204).
A welcome message used by a running ad cannot be changed or deleted; remove it from the ad first. LazyApp explains Meta’s 4027xxx errors in plain words.

Know which ad they came from

The first message from someone who tapped an ad carries the ad in data.message.content.referral on message.received:
Use source_id (the ad id) and ctwa_clid (the click id) to attribute leads and report conversions back to Meta. The inbox shows “From your ad: …” on that message.

In the console

WhatsApp numbers → Settings → Messaging → Welcome message for your ads: create, edit, delete and copy the id of each welcome message.
